Final Project

For a college student one of of the hardest and the most stressful times of the year is during finals. Students vacate their dorms leaving all fun behind them and flock to the library to begin the grueling process of studying. Whether it be memorizing a stack of organic chemistry cards, or writing a paper on the social changes during the aftermath of WWII, students cope in all sorts of ways. They cut themselves off from the world and enter one all their own with nothing but a pen, paper and the head between their shoulders. This series demonstrates the isolation and stress that students face during this difficult time. It possesses raw emotion, purpose and the feeling of desire to achieve. I've often found that when people are pushed to the limits they can accomplish extroidnary things that help them grow and become better human beings.

Final Project

The theme that i've chosen to explore for my final project is on the subject of documentary photography. I love the idea of capturing something or someone who is completely in their own element and is completely unaware that they are being documented. People tend to be the most natural when they think no one is looking. I'm choosing to shoot this in black and white because i think it makes the photos more timeless and real. This photo portrays students in the library completely cut off and studying (or browsing the internet) without worrying about what's going on around them.

Dayna Bartoli

I choose this series because i felt that the images were very captivating and the compositions worked very well. I particularly like how the artist used the use of circles to really create depth and almost another level to the photos as opposed to them just plain. The circles definitely give the series a cohesive feel as well as the square shape of the photograph and the zoomed in focus that each one possesses. My favorites pieces include photo number one. I think that it was a good picture to start out with because it is really strong and it makes the point of the series right away. Also it has this sort of trapped beauty that almost seems like it's trying to escape from the circle. Another photo I really enjoyed was photo number 9. It was like the first one a very strong photo and I think the colors are very strong; it gives off a very calming feeling and I like the use of the "veinlike" light, it brings a lot of life to the photo.
